NEDERLAND, Texas — November is National Adoption Month and the Texas Family Care Network says there are about 50 children in Southeast Texas looking to be part of a family.
Two Southeast Texas families say opening their homes was the best decision they ever made.
The Mullins say they felt called to welcome new additions into their homes.
"After we went to one meeting on fostering, Lauren looked at me and said, "This is what we are doing," Myer Mullins said.
Lauren and Myers Mullins first started their journey to grow their family with their son, Jude. They began fostering him in 2020.
In Fact, Jude's official adoption was in 2021, just in time for the holidays.
"After adopting him, we kind of put it on hold to stop and absorb being one family. About two months after that. We knew we were meant to do more," Myers said.
That's exactly what they did. Within two years, their family grew from 3 to five. Adopting their daughter, Shae, then their son, Luke.
"From the beginning we had a discussion about how we wouldn't say no. Whatever God was going to put in our lives as a family, we were going to just figure it out," Myers said.
The Mullins weren't the only family answering the call.
In 2018, the Plunketts opened their homes and hearts by adopting their two sons, Zach and Ian.
"After Ian was placed with us, we accepted another placement, Zackary, four months later. Ian was adopted in 2019 and Zachery was adopted in 2020," Jessica Plunkett said.
Additions to the family that their older sister, Chloe, says she can't imagine her life without.
"I was excited since I didn't know what siblings were going to be like, and I wanted to be the older sister all the time. I love them to death, and now that they are here I sort of want more brothers," Chloe Plunkett said.
If you are interested in giving a child a loving home, a meeting organized by Arrow Child & Family Ministries is scheduled December 4, 2023.
Arrow Child & Family Ministries is located at 4810 Ward Drive in Beaumont.
