21-year-old Vidor man dies after being hit by train in Vidor

A train was travelling along the tracks near East Railroad at Ethel Lane December 11, 2023, when it hit and killed him.

VIDOR, Texas — A 21-year-old Vidor man who was struck and killed Monday afternoon by a train in Vidor has been identified.

Aidan Montondon, 21, died at the scene Monday afternoon according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.

Vidor Police received a call at about 1:19 p.m. about a person struck by a train that was travelling along the tracks near East Railroad at Ethel Ln on December 11, 2023, according to a Vidor Police Department news release.

The conductor saw Montondon but could not stop the train in time, according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.

Witnesses told police they saw him walking along the tracks before the incident occurred, according to the release.

The train had to be broken apart before they can get the victim's body out, Carroll said.

Justice of the Peace Stagner has ordered an autopsy, according to the release.

This is an ongoing investigation.

On Monday, December 11, 2023, at 1:19 PM, the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call of an individual struck by a train at FM 1132 and East Railroad on the tracks. Officers responded to the area and found the subject under the train in the area of East Railroad and Ethel Lane. It was determined that he was deceased. The individual was witnessed walking alongside the tracks prior to the incident. Justice of the Peace Stagner was called to the scene and pronounced the individual deceased. He ordered an autopsy. The identity of the individual is not confirmed at this time. The investigation is on-going. The name of the deceased will be released upon confirmation of his identity and notice of next of kin.
