Train will be blocking railroad crossings at Roberts Street, Washington Street and Cartwright Street until further notice.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Some roads have been reopened in Beaumont after a train derailment caused the rail line and city to close them Saturday morning.

The derailment led to the road closures due to heavy damage to the rail road tracks.

Beaumont Police Department received a call about damaged railroad tracks at 10:23 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023  in the area of Houston Street and Franklin Street.

The officers went to the location and saw that a train traveling southbound had the last 3 cars derail just north of Franklin street.

It caused heavy damage to the railroad tracks going south, continuing past Corley Street.

Rail road personnel says this will be a lengthy repair.

Beaumont Police Department Patrol Sergeant tells 12 News there is no hazmat is involved at the location.

The rail road cars were open-top cars that were fully loaded with gravel.

Railroad crews are at the locations assessing the damage.
