2-year-old boy drowns Friday afternoon in Evadale

Though firefighters and medics performed CPR on the child, he didn't survive

EVADALE, Texas — A Southeast Texas family is mourning the loss of a two-year-old boy who drowned Friday afternoon.

Casen Wayne Lyles, 2, was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after firefighters responded to a reported drowning according to Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman.

On Monday morning Newman confirmed that the boy had died.

The incident happened near County Road 882 and FM 1131 in Evadale around 1 p.m. on May 22.

A spokesperson with the Evadale Volunteer Fire Department told 12News on Friday that they responded to the area and immediately began CPR on the boy before he was transported to the hospital around 2 p.m.

The boy was later pronounced deceased.
