Thousands take to the streets Thursday morning for Beaumont's 34th annual Turkey Trot

More than 2,100 runners, along with their families and friends, gathered Thursday morning for the races.

BEAUMONT, Texas — More than 2,100 Southeast Texans got a leg up on celebrating Thanksgiving by running in the 34th annual Turkey Trot in downtown Beaumont.

The 2,130 runners, along with their families and friends, gathered Thursday morning at Beaumont's downtown event center for a 10K, 5K and KidsK run.

For more than 30 years the Sea Rim Striders have sponsored the annual runs. Each year a charity is picked to benefit from the run's proceeds. This year the Shorkey Center will benefit from the race.

Kids under 12 hit the road first at 7:30 a.m. with 168 runners participating.

M. Willie, of Beaumont, came in first for the boys with a time  of 4:21, while M. Mosley, of Nederland, came in first for the girls with a time of 4:46, according to race results on the Sea Rim Strider's website.

The 5K race and 10K race kicked off next at 8 a.m. with 1,691 runners in the 5K and 270 running in the 10K, according to the race results online.

In the 5K race, Peter Gibson, of Nederland, finished first in the 5K male overall division with a time of 17:05.3.

Grace Sullivan, of Orange, finished first in the 5K fefmale overall division with a time of 18:39.8.

In the 10K race, Hayden Lightfoot, of Vidor, finished first in the 10K male overall division with a time of 34:27.

Adison Richard, of Beaumont, finished first in the 10K female overall division with a time of 38:21.6.
