'Nothing pulled her heart strings more than seeing a poor, lost, dog'| The Humane Society of Southeast Texas receives a generous donation

The McClellan Family along with friends donated $100,000 in honor of the late Anne McClellan.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Humane Society of Southeast Texas received a major donation this week.

The McClellan Family along with friends donated $100,000 in honor of the late Anne McClellan. Anne's husband Mark McClellan says that she was an advocate for animals.

12News spoke with Mark McClellan and leaders at the shelter who say that the money couldn't have come at a better time.

The donation will be split into two parts. The first $50,000 was distributed this week and the other $50,000 will be donated at a later date.

The donation was made to honor Anne's love for animals.

"It was always a joke in our family that she would bring one home and I would say Anne...you know I love dogs I just don't want to own them all," said Mark.

According to Mark, he made the donation along with his daughters and family friends.

"It is a charitable organization, they live and breathe by donations," said Mark. "So that's why we decided, amongst other people to make this donation."

Shelter director Taylor Westphal says the money will go towards the non-profit's spay and neuter program.

"That $100,000 donation could cover 1000 spays and neuters," said Westphal.

Westphal said that the donations came at a perfect time.

"When puppy and kitten season hits, everyone is overwhelmed, it is not just us," he said. "We wanted to try to do something to combat that. It may just be a drop in the bucket but we're putting our, our step in the right direction here."

The donation was a fitting tribute for a woman dedicated to animals in need.

"Nothing pulled her heart strings more than seeing a poor, lost, dog," said Mark.

Potential adopters can now mix and mingle with pets in the Anne McClellan Meet and Greet Room as they consider giving a "fur-ever" home to a pet in need.
