BEAUMONT, Texas — More than $70 million designated to improve drainage will be coming to Southeast Texas as part of $122,100,689 in regional mitigation funds awarded by the Texas General Land Office.
The funds are meant to improve streets, drainage and sewer systems in ten Texas counties according to a news release from Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, who announced the awards on Tuesday.
Jefferson and Orange Counties will be sharing Nearly $72.4 million of the funds for several projects.
Drainage District Seven in Jefferson County will receive $41,367,400 to fund three projects including a new detention pond expansion, pump station improvements and a system to control and collect data from flood control facilities according to the news release.
The "Halbouty Detention Pond Expansion" will benefit residents in Port Arthur and Nederland.
Nine existing pump stations throughout the City of Port Arthur will be improved with rehabilitated pump elements and new generators.
Flood control facilities throughout Drainage District Seven will have equipment installed to allow remote operation and collection of real-time data.
The Orange County Drainage District will use $31,091,100 million to build a detention pond for Tiger Creek to improve drainage at the northern reaches of Tiger Creek.
The project includes constructing a detention pond, embankment excavation, site grading and clearing.
