Tech company making move to historic downtown Beaumont building

The company is moving from Edison Plaza to a historic building downtown.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A tech company that focuses on things like e-commerce and software development is moving their headquarters from Edison Plaza to a historic building downtown.

Ameri Commerce has been in Beaumont since 2005. During that time, they have had several locations.

The company will be located at 268 Pearl Street.

The company's executives said they believe that this move can help attract other business investors to the region.

"We can bring some life to at least one of the buildings in downtown Beaumont and we figured that might help a little bit of chain reaction in the area," CEO of Ameri Commerce Ed Sturrock said.

The Lamar University graduate says the move will offers more space, and it will allow them to better serve customers.

The City of Beaumont is giving economic incentives to businesses that move downtown to certain areas. The company has under 20 employees, but plans to hire more in the coming months.

Bill Allen, president of Beaumont's Chamber of Commerce, believes more investors should follow Sturrock's lead.

"The real win for the city and our community is not just having businesses come in, which they will, but also to having a good portion of people residing downtown," Allen said.

Sturrock shares that optimism. he hopes this move leads to move companies coming downtown.

"The more businesses that can invest in downtown, that is going to bring more businesses in and, in turn, bring more jobs," he said.

The Beaumont city council will vote this week on whether to give Ameri Commerce a tax incentive for moving to their new downtown space. The company said they expect the project to be complete by the end of the year.
