Take Our Border Back convoy drives through Beaumont, Orange on way to border to 'shed light' on border security

Members of the convoy say their goal is to shed light on the amount of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally through Texas.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A convoy hoping to shed light on border security at the Texas-Mexico border drove through Beaumont and Orange today.

The Take Our Border Back convoy is on it's third day. Dozens of drivers were in the convoy as it drove through Southeast Texas.

In Orange, the convoy stopped at the Flying J truck stop on the corner of I-10 and Highway 62.

Members of the convoy say their goal is to shed light on the amount of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally through Texas.

“I took an oath to protect the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. That oath doesn't expire. And I'm hear to protect, and serve my country, till the day I die, “ said supporter and Army Veteran Veronica Suri.

The convoy started in Virginia Beach, then rolled through Alabama and later Baton Rouge.

One organizer told 12News their movement is not about political ideology. It's about public safety.

"There's been all kinds of stuff saying this is an armed insurrection, and that people are going down to the border to start a fight and that's totally incorrect and it's complete and utter nonsense," said Take Our Border Back Consultant Kipp Coltrin. "Go down to the border to pray, it's that simple and that's what it's about."

This is happening while a battle plays out in D.C. over whether Texas has authority to intervene in border security matters including the razor wire in the Rio Grande.

The convoy's next stop is Dripping Springs. They also plan to stop in Eagle Pass and in Yuma, Arizona.

The group's website says they hope to make it to the border by the end of the week.
