NEDERLAND, Texas — A Nederland High School student is in trouble Tuesday morning after bringing a fake gun to school.
The 15-year-old boy brought a lighter that looks like a gun to the Nederland High School campus Tuesday morning, according to Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter.
A brief lockdown was called for the campus while police and school officials investigated, according to Porter.
The fake gun was described by the district as a "plastic toy gun" in a Facebook post that noted the incident was "swiftly addressed" and that the student had been removed from the campus.
There is no continuing threat to any students or staff, according to the district.
Depending on what the student's intentions were in bringing the lighter to school he could be facing punishment by the district for breaking school rules as well as state charges.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
