BEAUMONT, Texas — A Texas inmate serving a sentence at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont for sexual assault of a child died this week.
Jake Kidd, who was convicted in Tarrant County before being sent to prison in 2022, was found unresponsive at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Prison staff started life-saving measures and then Kidd was taken by ambulance to a Southeast Texas hospital where he was pronounced dead, the release said.
His cause of death is currently unknown and there are no signs of foul play, according to the release.
Kidd was serving a 15-year sentence for sexual assault of a child under 17-years-old.
The Stiles Unit, which is just south of Beaumont, has a capacity of 2,887 inmates according to the TDCJ website. The prison employs 495, 359 of which are classes as "security employees."
