BEAUMONT — Within this year, local school districts could spend thousands of dollars to monitor potential threats to students made on social media accounts.
The program is called "Social Sentinel" and its a software designed to send alerts to designated administrators when a possible threat is seen. The program could be apart of more than 30 school districts in Southeast Texas.
A spokesperson for Region Five Educational Service Center says that there looking for ways to cut down the price for smaller districts by sharing the cost.
"I think its the most intelligent thing to do because we monitor social media as well," said Walter Yates, a parent. "If we are able to get the community to back up something like this, it would be the best thing to do."
Within the next few weeks local districts will decide whether or not to purchase the program.
