BEAUMONT, Texas — 12News is continuing to share the Southeast Texas nonprofits that are giving back this Thanksgiving.
On Wednesday, November 27 a number of organizations will be set up to hand out hot meals.
One of them is Truth On the Go, a food truck located in Beaumont.
For the past two years Joannie Dorsey, owner and chef of Truth On the Go, has been giving away hundreds of free meals during the holidays.
"I thought it would be good to just give back, give back to the community, not just the homeless but just everyday people who support us everyday. And we're grateful and thankful for their support," said Dorsey.
On Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Dorsey's food truck will be at the intersection of Concord Road and Lucas Drive. She'll be handing out 400 plates to anyone who shows up.
"Fried, or BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a dessert of choice, we have different desserts. And a beverage," Dorsey said.
Meanwhile a nonprofit, Bibles & Bugsprays of Buna, is hosting their 5th Annual Thanksgiving Feast. There, attendees can enjoy deep fried turkey, live Christian music, inspirational speakers and resources to help anyone in need.
"Homelessness is not only just living out on the streets or at Salvation Army. That includes if you can't pay your light bill this month you're on your way, right? To being homeless and so you matter to us, like how can we help you," said Dorsey.
For months, volunteers have been busy in Buna donating food, clothing and building care packages to handout on Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day.
"I have 105 people that have signed up for care packages. And they're gonna get items like tents, sleeping bags, matts shoes jackets, hygiene packs," said Laura Turner, the director of Bibles and Bugsprays.
The Thanksgiving Feast will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 11 a.m. at Henry's Place located at 1107 McFadden Street in Beaumont.
Both groups say they hope to see a great turnout.
"Come by and fellowship, fellowship with your community, get to know people. Might be a job out there for you," Dorsey said.
