BEAUMONT, Texas — A film shot in Southeast Texas that has been 10 years in the making for a Port Arthur filmmaker premiered Saturday night in Beaumont.
The key message of the film "I’m Going Home," which was screened at the Jefferson Theatre, highlights the story of a Port Arthur man, who makes a life changing decision.
"I believe anyone can come to a point where they want to make a positive change in their life, and that's the premise," said Christopher Newman. Newman wrote and directed the film and made it a point to hire local actors and film crews with Texas roots.
"We worked with people from Houston, Baytown, um a lot of people from this area. Beaumont and Port Arthur," he said.
"So, we work with a lot of talented people, and we get a lot of work done. there is more than filming, the post, preproduction and engineering," Newman said.
The progress of the film was delayed by the pandemic.
The film touches on the real issues of Port Arthur, according to producer and actor Donnie Thomas.
"This is what goes on in our community, it's everyday things, like we talk about the gun violence that's going on and marital issues. it's just real," said Thomas.
Several Houston artists such as Lil Keke, and Johnny Dang and others also appeared in the film.
