Southeast Texas small businesses prepare for Small Business Saturday

Local business owners share why this shopping day means so much them.

BEAUMONT, Texas — As people continue on their holiday shopping spree, local stores are preparing for their busiest day of the year.

Small Business Saturday is when shoppers make their way out of the big name store and into local businesses to gear up for the holiday season.

Local business owners share why this shopping day means so much them. They rely on the people of Southeast Texas to keep their doors open.

Small business owners say shopping local during the holidays is essential. A few of the owners of these small mom and pop shops talk about about how they are preparing for tomorrow.

These shops hold unique pieces of art and history that you can't find at big stores like Walmart.

"It kind of works together to be able to sell things that you like, then you can buy it, sell it, keep it and just go on this adventure, I guess, as a whole," said Co-Owner of Beaumont Antique Warehouse Daniel Wilson.

The Beaumont Antique Warehouse is one of many local small businesses who are anticipating lots of shoppers looking to make their contribution  to Small Business Saturday.

"We're going to have 25% off in the store for all of our personal owned items," Wilson said.

If you're looking for even more novelties and pieces of history the Shops of Midtown is a local business you don't to miss.

"My dream was always to have an antique store one day, and the opportunity came up and I jumped in a little early, but here we are!" said Owner of Shops of Midtown Ryan Walton.

Walton has owned his store for a year and owns several other businesses around Beaumont he knows the importance of small businesses and their impact on the community.

"We restock our store with antiques and collectibles from this area. So most of our money goes right back in to the people here,"

Cotton Creek Winery and Bar is the perfect local spot to end up at after that long day of shopping.

"We make all of our own wine, on-site bottle it, sell it. And we also have a small kitchen where we have appetizers and pizzas,"  said owner Traci Tucker.

Like Wilson and Walton, Tucker is all too familiar with how small businesses give back to the community.

"We are literally keeping the money in town," said Tucker. "If everybody would go to one local business a week, that would make a huge difference."
