Smoke and fog suspected in multiple Port Arthur wrecks on Highway 73

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Emergency personnel were sent to a wreck involving multiple vehicles on a foggy stretch of highway in Southeast Texas.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Port Arthur Police Department,  Port Arthur Fire Department and Acadian EMS are responding to multiple wrecks on Highway 73.

Jefferson County Sherriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes said the wrecks are due to heavy smoke and fog in the area with no visibility and there are reportedly several major wrecks with possible entrapment.

Due to heavy smoke and fog in the area with no visibility, Highway 73 East and Westbound will be closed at West Port Arthur Road to Labelle Road. Drivers need to find an alternate route of travel until further notice.

First responders are getting to the injured as quick as they can so please avoid the area.
