BEAUMONT, Texas — A road rage incident appears to have led to a shooting Saturday afternoon along southbound U.S. Highway 69/96 just south of Lumberton.
A 26-year-old Silsbee man was wounded in the incident that happened along U.S. Highway 69/96 at the Cooks Lake Rd overpass according to Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis. He was taken by ambulance to a Southeast Texas hospital and was listed in stable condition according to Davis.
The bullet came through the rear-window of the man's vehicle before striking him Davis said. There was also a woman and a child in the vehicle.
Witnesses told deputies the suspect was in a red Nissan Versa sedan that fled the scene headed into Beaumont.
Southbound U.S. Highway 69/96 was shutdown while deputies investigated the shooting which was reported at ab out 1:35 p.m.
After evidence was collected a search warrant was issued by Hardin County 356th District Court Judge Steven Thomas. Deputies served the warrant at 10 p.m. at a home off of FM 418 near Kountze.
At that time deputies found the red Nissan Versa and detained a 52-year-old Kountze man for further investigation and possible charges.
