Retired Beaumont fire chief, founder of Fire Museum of Texas dies

Retired Beaumont Fire Chief, C.A. "Pete" Shelton died on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the age of 92.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Southeast Texas fire legend has sadly passed away.

Retired Beaumont Fire Chief, C.A. "Pete" Shelton died on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the age of 92.

Shelton was the founder of the Fire Museum of Texas located in Beaumont.

He became a firefighter in 1950 and went on in 1976 to serve as fire chief for more than two decades before retiring in 1996. Shelton was Interim fire chief in 2007 at the request of the city. He also served as Beaumont's interim city manager, according to Vice President of Beaumont Professional Firefighters Cody Hendon.

The  C.A. Pete Shelton Plaza in Beaumont is named after him.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation Chief Pete Shelton Scholarship Endowment on the LIT website.

Contributions can also be made to the Fire Museum of Texas or the St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School.

Shelton's arrangements are pending under the direction of Broussard's.
