BEAUMONT, Texas — A historic preservation organization is hosting two events highlighting Beaumont architecture and how to protect it in response to disasters.
Preservation Texas is the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation according to a Preservation Texas news release.
The Southeast Texas Regional Preservation Summit will take place on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the McFaddin-Ward House Visitor Center in Beaumont.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a box lunch and an opportunity to tour the McFaddin-Ward House. Registration is open to anyone interested in attending.
"The Summit will feature a disaster preparedness and response workshop focused on historic buildings and neighborhoods led by the Texas Historical Commission and staff from SWCA. In addition, participants will learn about coastal preservation efforts that can serve as a model and inspiration for preservation activities elsewhere in Southeast Texas," the release states.
Later in the evening, Preservation Texas will host a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. at the Dishman Art Museum.
The lecture is by Rice University architectural historian Stephen Fox's on “The Twentieth-Century Architectural Heritage of Texas’s Golden Triangle", according to the release.
"Fox will survey outstanding works of architecture ranging from buildings constructed in the wake of the Spindletop oil discovery to highlights of mid-twentieth-century design by Beaumont's, Port Arthur's, and Orange’s foremost modern architects," said the release.
Registration is required for both events.
Tickets for the Summit can be purchased for $50 for Preservation Texas members or $75 for non-members, which includes a complimentary one-year individual membership for new members.
The free lecture will take place at Lamar University’s Dishman Art Museum Auditorium, but you must reserve a seat.
