OCI Clean Ammonia sale announced as construction on Beaumont ammonia plant continues

The project is planned to produce 1.1 million metric tons per year.

BEAUMONT, Texas — An ammonia plant still under construction in Beaumont is being sold before the facility is finished being built.

OCI Clean Ammonia, which has been reported to be bringing 1,000 construction jobs and 70 permanent jobs to the city, is being sold to Woodside Energy in a $2.35 billion deal announced on Monday.

The project is planned to produce 1.1 million metric tons per year, according to a news release on the sale.

Construction on the project, which is on the south side of Beaumont, began in December 2022.

OCI is going to finish building the plant and will be responsible for its commissioning and startup according to the news release. The company will end up "delivering a fully staffed and operational facility" to new owner Woodside Energy the release said.

It is planned to meet "meet blue ammonia specifications by any standard announced to date" and is expected to be in production some time in 2025.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
