ORANGE, Texas — Invista announced that it would continue producing hexamethylene diamine (HMD) at its site in Orange.

Francis Murphy, Invista's president and CEO says that multiple circumstances have changed, including the Orange site’s demonstrated ability to operate as an HMD-only facility in a safe, reliable and competitive manner.

Last year, the site announced that it was ending adiponitrile (ADN) and HMD operations.

“We are pleased to be moving forward with long-term HMD production in Orange,” said Murphy in a press release.

Invista’s Upstream Nylon business will continue to focus on increasing its ability to reliably
supply customers with products in the nylon 6,6 value chain, from adiponitrile to polymer, according to a news release from the site.

“We are pleased with INVISTA's decision to continue their HMD operations at Dow’s Sabine River Site in Orange, Texas. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and look forward to continuing our partnership with INVISTA for many years to come," said Dow Vice President of Operations Fernando Signorini.

Last year, Invista announced it would begin shutting down its production facility in Orange right away, closing and eliminating more than 300 jobs by the end of 2024.

The company made the announcement on Thursday, October 5, 2023 according to a news release on its website.

Invista was expecting to stop production of hexamethylene diamine, or HMD, in mid-2024 due to a previous low demand and higher supply.

"Unfortunately, lower than anticipated growth and an increase in global supply led to this difficult decision," Francis Murphy, INVISTA president and CEO, was quoted as saying in the 2023 release.

Invista is set to continue hexamethylene diamine production at its site in Orange.

"We expect our optimized long-term headcount to be approximately 60 Invista positions," said the site.

They will be hiring for various roles including operations, craft, technical and leadership.

Over the next few months, the positions will be posted on their career site to support both short and long-term business needs.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
