SABINE PASS, Texas — The Golden Pass LNG project seems like it can move forward after a construction standoff.
Earlier this year the contractor, Zachry Holdings, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, saying the project was $2.4 billion over budget.
12News previously reported the mass worker furloughs and layoffs as well as the lawsuit that followed.
Now, according to Reuters, Zachry has reached a settlement that will allow other contractors to resume work.
It's reported that a company called Chiyoda International Corp. will take over as the lead contractor.
Golden Pass LNG released a statement to 12News that reads, "Golden Pass acknowledges the court’s approval of the interim order associated with Zachry Holdings, Inc.'s motion in bankruptcy court. This allows Golden Pass and our construction contractors McDermott and Chiyoda to ramp up site construction activities and progress our LNG terminal. Going forward, we are focused on getting people back to work, including local workers and vendors, and progressing this critical energy project. We are committed to a safe and successful completion of this world class facility."
With all of the delays, Golden Pass isn't expected to begin exports until 2025.
