PORT NECHES, Texas — While snow, rain, heat, or gloom of night won’t stop the U.S. Post Office a large plant explosion will and frankly we can’t blame them.
The postal service announced in a news release Thursday that out of “an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety and well-being of postal customers and employees” services in Mid-County would be suspended.
The USPS retail locations in Port Neches, Groves and Nederland will be closed temporarily following the Port Neches plant explosion and fire the release said. Currently there is no timeline for when services will resume.
Residential delivery service in the area has been suspended but delivery and P.O. box customers can pick up their mail in Beaumont at the main post office at 5815 Walden Road according to the release.
The hours at the Walden Road post office are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday’s from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The office is closed on Sundays.
Any mail already delivered to P.O. boxes inside the closed locations will not be available as only mail processed from Thursday on will be forwarded to the Walden Road location in Beaumont the release said.
“We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience that may be caused by the temporary adjustment. We want to offer our assurance that we will work as quickly as possible to reopen, as soon as we can safely do so,” the post office said in the release.
