BEAUMONT, Texas — The Port Neches-Groves High School football team is chasing a championship and early this morning loyal fans saw the players off as they left for Arlington.
For the second year in a row the Indians are facing off against the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears for the state title.
On Friday Port Neches was awash in a sea of purple with cars decked out, homes sporting good luck signs and banners wishing for a PNG win lining the sidewalks.
Purple-wearing fans have their eyes on a state title and they've been wiping out Mid-County boutiques as they've been stocking up on all their purple gear.
As the Indians get ready to fight for the 5A Division 2 State Championship the Tootzie Toes Boutique is showing their support by garnishing fans in PNG gear. Then they're heading to the big game themselves.
"We're super excited about being back in. We're state bound. Back in the state championships. We're ready for our redemption," says Kellie Dowden. "And it's actually against the same opponent, South Oak Cliff so we're ready for a rematch."
Last year the Indians lost to the Bears 24 to 34.
"We wish them the best of luck and we're super excited and convinced that they're gonna take home the win this year. That's what we're all rooting for," Dowden said.
Ahead of Saturday's big game, Deidra Lemonis, has decked out her Port Neches Ave store, Grace and Love Boutique, in PNG designs.
Over the past couple weeks people have been flooding in almost wiping out all of her merchandise she says.
"So far we've had customers come in and ask for shirts, hats, just anything purple related that we carry," Lemonis said Friday. "We've had a lot of tremendous support from our community over the last few weeks."
Lemonis is also a PNG parent who is headed to the game and hopes to see the entire community there.
