PORT ARTHUR — The Port Arthur Police chief has tendered his resignation after about a year and a half on the job.
Multiple sources tell 12News Patrick Melvin was forced to resigned or be fired on Friday.
Interim city manager Harvey Robinson requested Melvin;s resignation District Five Councilman Willie "Bae" Lewis told 12News.
Port Arthur Mayor Derrick Freeman told 12News that Melvin had resigned pending city council's acceptance and that there is a council meeting on Tuesday when it will be finalized.
Melvin became became Port Arthur's top cop in October 2016.
12News has reached out to Melvin but has heard back from him.
