Port Arthur ISD prepares for school year after recovering from Harvey

The district says that it received more than $250,000 in grants to help rebuild their facilities and provide school supplies for students.

PORT ARTHUR — Port Arthur ISD is preparing for the upcoming school year after being damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey.

The district says that it received more than $250,000 from the Port Arthur Education Foundation in grants to help rebuild their facilities and provide school supplies for students.

Both Adams Elementary School and the Administration building received the most damage from the storm. However, both buildings will be ready before school begins.

"We are ready for our students to come back," said Mark Porterie, the Superintendent. "We are kind of worried because we are in hurricane season, but we are also happy that we made it through the last year."

Two weeks ago, the Memorial High School Stadium was shut down because the walkway to the press box needed repairs. However, the district says that it has been repaired and will be ready for the first game on August 31.
