A beloved greeter at the Vidor Walmart is being remembered by many in the community after he passed away Sunday.
Archie J. Davidson had been a greeter at the Walmart for 15 years.
Davidson, who was the BBQ King of 2015 and marched in Vidor High School's 2015 homecoming parade, had also been a 20 year volunteer at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas and Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
A wreath was one of many symbols on display in the memory of Archie Davidson at the Wal-Mart.
Davidson was a door greeter at the Vidor Wal-Mart for the last 15 years, where he grew close with many of the staff members.
Debbie Durham has worked at this store for 17 years and loved working alongside him.
"Mr. Archie was a character, and very well loved by this community and to these associates, he was family," Durham said.
Davidson could brighten up anyone's day.
Gabby Sellers recalled the happiness she would feel when Davidson greeted her at the door as a kid.
"It doesn't matter who you are, he would go up to you and just give you a little sticker, say “hi,” you know?" Sellers said.
“I mean, there will be some people greeting you at the door but won’t be as interactive as he was,” Sellers said.
Whether Davidson was volunteering at local hospitals or manning the door at Wal-Mart, Durham knows he loved working with people.
"He had that ambition to see people, and that's what kept him going," Durham said.
Now, he will remain in the hearts of those who felt lucky to know a loving individual.
"I wish I could say so many things to him, how much I loved him because I did. And we all loved him, and would give anything to be with him again, we just loved being around him, he was that kind of person," Durham said.
Davidson is survived by two daughters, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
