BEAUMONT, Texas — Some Beaumont Popeyes employees have their hands full due to the return of the beloved chicken sandwich to menus this weekend.
Long lines could be seen outside as early as 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The return of the favorite menu item comes a couple months after the restaurant announced they were completely sold out, but promised to bring the sandwiches back.
In August, Popeyes pinned a tweet to their Twitter account saying, "You ate 'em ALL. (Legit proud of you.)"..."Y’all. We love that you love The Sandwich. Unfortunately we’re sold out (for now)."
In a November 1 tweet, Popeyes said, "This is not a drill... We’re fully stocked."
Shaunda Williams, an employee at the Popeyes restaurant just off of Eastex Freeway near the intersection of Dowlen Road and Concord Road told 12News customers were waiting in the parking lot around 9:30 a.m. to order one of the sandwiches.
"I mean they are swarming us like flies," Williams said.
She said they've been serving the menu item since Friday. Sunday, November 3, also known as 'National Sandwich Day,' is the official return date according to Popeyes.
Lumberton resident Helen Wojcik made a drive to make sure she got in on the chicken craze.
"If I know when my last meal is going to be before I die, Popeyes is going to be my last meal," Wojcik said.
Chicken sandwiches are also back on the menu at Beaumont's Calder Avenue location.
"I was ready. I've been on it, I think I've been two stepping and everything trying to get these orders out today," Williams said.
