Plane makes emergency landing near Kountze after mechanical problems

The pilot made a successful landing near 20547 FM 1293.

THICKET, Texas — A small airplane made an emergency landing near Kountze on Friday.

The plane had to make the emergency landing due to mechanical problems, according to Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis.

The pilot made a successful landing near 20547 FM 1293 and the plane has been moved from the roadway.

Davis confirms to 12News that the plane took off from Jack Brooks Regional Airport. Officials are not aware of where his destination was.

The plane appears to be a single-engine Cessna 140 from the year 1946, according to federal records from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane is registered to a Port Neches resident, according to the federal records.

Flight Aware, a flight tracking website, shows the plane took off from Jack Brooks at 2:50 p.m. Tracking appeared to stop at 3:18 p.m. for about 26 min of flight time.

Deputies have located the plane and pilot and no injuries have been reported, according to Davis.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and federal authorities are on their way to the scene.
