PINEHURST, Texas — The Pinehurst Police Department have identified the body found by fishermen in Adams Bayou.
The man has been identified as Niaja Cormier of Houston.
According to PPD, the revaluation came after a local kayaker called PPD on June 9, saying they had come upon Cormier's personal belongings including his shoes, ID, and car keys on the bank of Adams bayou.
Cormier was listed as a missing person by the Beaumont Police Department back on May 29.
PPD initially received the call when the fishermen found Cormier's body while out on the water June 1.
An autopsy has been ordered by Precinct 1, Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner. According to PPD no foul play is suspected at this point.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Niaja Cormier’s family and friends during this time,” said Lieutenant Jocelyn Trussell.
Cormier’s next of kin have been notified.
