Officers, deputies in Orange County hold active shooter drill Monday at Vidor Middle School, Oak Forest Elementary

VIDOR, Texas — If you're in Vidor and notice or hear of a large law enforcement presence Monday at the middle school or an elementary campus you can rest easy as it is only a drill.

Orange County Deputies and Vidor Police officers are among several agencies participating in what is being described as a "realistic active shooter drill" that began at 8:30 a.m. at Vidor Middle School and Oak Forest Elementary School, according to a news release from the district.

The drill was announced over the Vidor Police Department's radio system and which can also be heard over scanner radios. Radio traffic may also be heard during the drill over police an d other first responder frequencies.

Vidor ISD faculty and staff will not be participants in the drill.
