Orange County fire chief warns public about risks of wildfires

According to chief Moore the Southeast Texas region is on the verge of being in an extreme drought, with conditions too dry and windy to be burning things.

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — Chief Kelley Moore with Orange County ESD 4 wants to warn the public about potential wildfires after him and his men spent all Thursday fighting brush fires.

According to chief Moore the Southeast Texas region is on the verge of being in an extreme drought, with conditions too dry and windy to be burning things.

Chief Moore says that while the area is not currently under a burn ban, it will not be long until one is started.

"Conditions are very favorable for sustaining a wild fire. Our Crews have been very busy the last few days. It puts a huge strain on the 911 response when one of these large fires break out," said chief Moore.

Chief Moore asks people to be extra while burning in these conditions.
