Orange County deputies confirm identity of deceased missing man found in sunken vehicle in Neches River

Investigation done at the scene indicates that the vehicle was traveling north on 4 Oaks and lost control at a curve.

VIDOR, Texas — The Orange County Sheriff's Office confirmed the identity of the man found in a sunken vehicle that was pulled out of the Neches River Neches River Friday afternoon.

Deputies arrived at the scene at 4 Oaks Ranch Road in Vidor on December 22, 2023 and found a vehicle in the water.

A Justice of the Peace pronounced Nathan Reid, 32, of Vidor deceased at the scene on Friday evening.

OCSO received a missing person report for Reid around 12:30 p.m. Friday after he didn't show up for work, according to OCSO Captain Joey Jacobs.

Investigation done at the scene indicates that the vehicle was traveling north on 4 Oaks and lost control at a curve. The vehicle hit an embankment and went into the river.

Friends and Family members searched his commute to work and discovered a vehicle in the Neches River, according to Jacobs.

A dive team from Port Arthur is on the way to confirm if it is the vehicle belongs to Reid.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a crash on Four Oaks Road, near Loving Drive, at the Neches River, that occurred today, December 22, 2023. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a vehicle was traveling north on Four Oaks Road and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck an embankment and traveled into the river. The vehicle is still currently under water and the Port Arthur Fire Department Dive Team is assisting with the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation. Further information will be released once it is collected.
