JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A 58-year-old Beaumont woman was severely injured Wednesday evening in an ATV crash in west Jefferson County.
The crash happened on Lawhon Road in Beaumont between Cheek and China at about 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A 54-year-old Beaumont man, who was not injured, was riding an ATV east as he towed another ATV with rope according to DPS.
The ATV being towed did not have any brakes and as it was being towed the front ATV stopped. The ATV being towed kept going, got caught in the rope and jolted to the side throwing a 58-year-old Beaumont woman to the pavement.
She was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with life-threatening injuries according to the news release.
The force on the rope caused the front ATV to flip over.
