JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — The people onboard a boat that overturned Tuesday were luckily rescued by a passing boat before emergency crews arrived.
A person called 911 about an overturned boat on Keith Lake not far from the boat ramp around 8:15 a.m. The caller told dispatch they did not see the boat flip and that it was already overturned when they saw it.
A Jefferson County Marine Unit boat and a Port Arthur Fire Department boat responded to the scene, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Crystal Homes told 12News.
When crews found the upside-down vessel, the Port Arthur Fire Department boat towed it to shore. They did not find anyone on the boat.
Deputies later learned the overturned boat experienced mechanical issues and the people onboard were rescued by another boat.
No injuries have been reported. The people who were in the boat that flipped were duck hunters.
