Newton ISD breaks ground for high school expansion part of $26.5M bond

It will be remodeled, with a new wing being added. This will allow current exterior classrooms to be brought inside the main building.

NEWTON, Texas — The groundbreaking ceremony for the Newton Independent School District's high school expansion took place Tuesday.

Crews broke ground on December 12 at 10 a.m. at the Newton High School campus.

The expansion is being paid for by the $26.5 million bond that was passed in November 2022. The bond is allowing the district to make renovations on all 3 of its campuses.

The focus is on student safety and learning environments.

The main building at Newton High School is 50 years old. It will be remodeled, with a new wing being added. This will allow current exterior classrooms to be brought inside the main building.

Newton Middle School will have the restrooms in the main building renovated. The main building and gym will also get a connecting hallway between them. More restrooms will be added in the new hallway, as well as a new gym entrance.

Newton Elementary will receive renovations to its gym, which is the oldest building in the district. Renovations will include a new foyer and restrooms.
