BEAUMONT, Texas — A new Texas Oncology Center opened in Beaumont to help save Southeast Texas families time and money.
The previous facility was outdated and patients had to navigate many floors to get care.
The new facility is located at 3010 Harrison Avenue in Beaumont.
However, the new consolidated campus will offer quick and efficient treatment so Southeast Texas can continue to fight cancer with the best technology.
We just couldn't handle the patients, so we needed a bigger building and we consolidated one area to make it easier for patients," said Scott McKenney, Gulf Coast Beaumont regional director, said.
Practice Director, Maria Jenkins, says the new building does right, what the previous building did wrong.
"I decided that when we were going to move that I wanted one level, just one level, where everyone could work together easier. Our other office had problems with the elevators breaking down a lot and the patients, it was hard for them," she said.
For over 35 years, Dr. Scott McKennney says Texas Oncology has acted as the main provider for adult cancer treatment in Southeast Texas.
"So, we prefer focusing and treating the patient with cancer, not the cancer, realizing that we want them to enjoy their life and what they're doing. If they're spending all their time up at the cancer center or traveling back and forth to the cancer center, they're not able to do or enjoy their life."
Now, they are operating with optimum speed and efficiency.
"They don't have to worry about 'what floor do I go to' or 'what doctor is on what floor' anymore. Or 'where do I go for the lab,' or 'where do I go for the chemo.' They go to one floor and aren't told to go to the next," Jenkins said.
And Southeast Texas families would get the same quality care like bigger cities offer.
"We have everything that they can get in Houston. We have it here. Chemotherapy to radiation, we have clinical trails. They can get all of this closer to home that they don't have to go to Houston to get it. We'll take care of them here," Jenkins said.
Rather than making a grueling trip to Houston or another distant city, the new Texas Oncology Center gives Southeast Texans much-needed convenience in the on-going fight against cancer.
"I think it's a hidden gem. We just want to make sure people are aware of and know they can get good cancer care close to home," McKenney said.
Texas Oncology is convenient for patients to come for one location for care and they treat a wide variety of cancers.
