PINEHURST, Texas — Construction of a unique community in Pinehurst is moving right along for those looking to downsize and simplify.
Houston developers are building a tiny home village that will feature more than 40 homes which are all under 500 square feet.
The tiny homes look like they're made out of wood, but they're actually made from coffee husks and recycled bottles.
"58 percent of the materials are coffee husks and the rest are recycled plastics," said Jose Gonzalez, who is helping develop the community.
The tiny home village is taking shape on Pheasant St thanks to Houston developers Jose Gonzalez and Jair Perales.
They're making way for anticipated expansion in Orange County.
"There's gonna be a huge need of housing here as you know because of the plants that are being built," Gonzalez said.
The homes are also perfect for small families just looking to scale down.
"The ideal would be starting couples or empty nesters as well," Gonzalez says.
In 40 of the tiny homes there will be an open concept kitchen with a living room in the front, a master bedroom and a loft upstairs that can be a secondary bedroom. There's also a full bathroom.
Two more homes, made of shipping containers, will bring the total living spaces in the community to 42.
"People living here can not only live in a more efficient space, but with less expenses and be integrated with nature," Gonzalez says.
In addition to 'the "tiny town" there will be an outdoor gym, a park and a lake that will be stocked with fish according to Gonzalez.
While the price isn't set in stone yet the cost of one tiny home should be under $100,000.
However the developers are planning to offer the homes as rental units.
"This can be a vacation home, this can be a secondary home, or a permanent house for people, so depending on the needs we can allow them to be exactly that," he said.
The entire project is expected to be finished by the end of 2024.
