The city of Nederland will soon have a new officer patrolling the streets.
Officer Peyton Collins was sworn into the department on Tuesday but he's not new to the boys in blue.
Officer Collins' step-father is the Chief of Police in West Orange.
Gary Porter, Chief of the Nederland Police Department, told 12News he's going to be a great fit.
"He's going to serve the citizens well. He's professional minded and has the same mind about the citizens that we do," Chief Porter said. "We are really happy to have him."
Officer Collins will begin field training beginning this week and will continue for the next four months.
