NEDERLAND, Texas — Back to school season is right around the corner and students will soon walk the school hallways again.

As a way to prepare and take caution for the upcoming school year, the Nederland Police Department will be conducting an active shooter training at Central Middle School on Wednesday, July 24 and Thursday, July 25.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are working together and going through simulations and scenarios to strengthen their response to active shooter emergencies.

"Further, this training is not for just schools," said Nederland Police Department Chief Gary Porter. "It can be used in many other scenarios. Malls, businesses, sporting events and such."

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
