BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont credit union and a nationwide credit union network teamed up and now thousands of dollars are going towards sick children in Southeast Texas.
Neches Federal Credit Union recently won $10,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital. The money was won in a Credit Union for Kids virtual event.
CO-OP Financial Services sponsored the event.
During the event, Neches FCU employees entered a drawing to try and win money to help support the area CMN hospital. Delilah Benson was randomly selected as the winner.
Not only is Benson a Neches FCU employee, she is also a former patient at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth Hospital.
“In 2021, I was blessed with twins,” Benson said.
The mother’s bundles of joy arrived almost five weeks early.
“Because of their early arrival, they spent some time in the NICU at our local CMN Hospital, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital,” Benson said.
Benson said the compassionate care she received at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas was amazing.
“I felt at ease knowing that my babies were in such good hands while being cared for,” Benson said.
Now, almost two years after the fateful day, Benson said her children are, “happy, healthy and full of life.” She has paid it forward.
Benson designated the $10,000 donation she won to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas. She hopes it will ensure that future moms can get the same care she got while delivering her twins.
“Knowing that this donation will be used to help provide the best care for other pediatric patients in need is such a wonderful feeling,” Benson said.
Throughout the year, Neches FCU raises funds to support CMN. Employees are currently selling Heart Icon to kick off their 2023 fundraising effort throughout the month of February.
“CMN Hospitals and Credit Unions for Kids are near and dear to the hearts of Neches employees, as it is our primary non-profit collaboration,” Jason Landry, President, and CEO at Neches Federal Credit Union, said.
The money raised stays in and helps the community in Southeast Texas. The credit union’s efforts are appreciated.
“In 2022, thanks to the amazing generosity of employees and members, Neches raised nearly $15,000 to help us provide the best possible care to our youngest and most vulnerable patients,” Caralee Thompson, Program Manager for Children’s Miracle Network in Southeast Texas, said. “We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful community partner.”
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Southeast Texas is a non-profit organization that works to raise funds and awareness for sick and injured kids at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth and Jasper Memorial Hospitals.
