SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has investigated a multiple vehicle crash that happened between San Jacinto County and Polk County.
The crash resulted in the death of one woman and multiple injuries.
The crash happened around 8:20 a.m. on Monday, January 15 on U.S. Highway 59 south, on the Trinity River Bridge, according to a DPS news release.
The initial investigation shows that a Toyota Tundra and a Volkswagen Beetle were both traveling south. The Toyota lost control and was hit by a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, which then hit the Volkswagen, according to the release.
The driver of the Toyota was brought to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the release states.
After this crash, a second crash occurred when an International truck tractor semi-trailer began to slow down and was hit by a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, according to the release.
No injuries were reported after the second crash.
A third crash happened when a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer came to a stop in the road. The release says that a Chevrolet Silverado veered left to avoid hitting the Peterbilt but hit the rear of the International truck in the second crash, according to the release.
No injuries were reported after the third crash.
Following the third crash, a Toyota Rav4 was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Impala, which caused a chain reaction with a Ford F-150, according to the release.
A Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was able to safely veer to the left to avoid the crash but was hit by a Nissan. The release says that the passenger of the Ford exited the vehicle and was pinned between the vehicles when the Ford was hit from behind by a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer.
The driver of the Impala was identified as 44-year-old Jaqueline Teeters of Livingston. They were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford was identified as 37-year-old Drew Broom of Jasper, who is a police officer for the City of Jasper. He were transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 37-year-old Selina Gilchriest was his passenger. She was brought to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital, where she died from injuries she sustained during the crash.
An 8-year-old child was also in the car. They were also transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
