BEAUMONT, Texas — Molina Healthcare of Texas is hosting a community baby shower and information event for expectant mothers in Southeast Texas.
The 'Born to be Wild Baby Shower! event will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Gloria Ramirez Neighborhood Resource Center located at 2850 Gulf Street in Beaumont.
The Beaumont Housing Authority, Seasons of Change, Inc., and MCNA Dental are partnering with Molina Healthcare of Texas to support expectant mothers with giveaways and information about well-child visits and postpartum supports. Attendees will receive a gift basket with diapers, wipes, books, baby shampoo, and a baby blanket, according to the Molina Healthcare of Texas press release.
The event will promote health for mother and child as Texas fights to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
In the latest Healthy Texas Mothers and Baby Data Book, the Department of Health and Human Services found that while the state infant mortality rate continues to drop below national averages, people of color are at higher risk than other ethnicities.
The most recent data show Hispanic infant mortality (5.1 per 11,000 live births) was higher than that for white infants (4.6), while the death rate for Black infants was more than twice that (10.7), according to the release.
Molina Healthcare of Texas has been providing government-funded health care since 2006.
