Mardi Gras Southeast Texas no longer eyeing Port Neches, Beaumont a possibility

The change is due to, "irreconcilable differences"

PORT NECHES, Texas — A spokesperson for Mardi Gras of Southeast Thursday morning announced that organizers are no longer considering Port Neches a new home for the event.

“Due to irreconcilable differences Mardi Gras Southeast Texas has chosen to opt out of further discussions with the City of Port Neches regarding relocation of the festival to Port Neches Riverfront Park,” says the statement.

Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames told 12News she will be speaking with Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas officials on Tuesday about a potential move to Beaumont.

Mardi Gras Southeast Texas has requested the item be removed from today’s Port Neches City Council agenda.

Thursday’s statement says, “Other opportunities have been presented and will be considered.  Watch for announcements in the near future.

An official with the city of Beaumont has approached Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas saying the city is open to the idea of having the annual event in Beaumont.
