JASPER, Texas — A man is recovering from injuries after his car flipped and landed near the water's edge last night on U.S. 190 near the Neches River bridge.

Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, the Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call about a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 190 near the Neches River bridge at Dam B in the construction zone.

Initially, it was reported that the vehicle was upside down and in the water.

The car came to rest upside down on the north side of the bridge, among heavy construction equipment and nearly 20 feet below the roadway, near the water's edge.

The man sustained visible injuries and was assessed, treated, and transported by Allegiance Mobile Health and Jasper EMS to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.

The roadway was shut down in both directions while responders worked the scene and reopened at 12:30 a.m.

The accident was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety, with assistance from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office and Texas State Park Police from Martin Dies Jr. State Park.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
