PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has arrested the man responsible for setting a fire inside an Avery Trace apartment and to pallets and motorized scooters at the H-E-B on Highway 365 in Port Arthur on January 10, 2024.
According to Port Arthur Fire Marshal L. Paul Washburn, Gerardo Alaffa has been charged with setting a fire inside an apartment unit at the Avery Trace Apartments.
The apartment was vacant during the time of the fire, however the fire caused damage to other occupied units.
Back in January, firefighters found several pallets and motorized scooters on fire with heavy fire and flames shooting up to the roof of the building on the side of the H-E-B.
The building received minor damage, but did not fully catch on fire due to the structure being built with cement blocks.
Alaffa has not been charged for the H-E-B fire. The charge is being filled separately.
No one was injured in the fires.
