LUMBERTON, Texas — Lumberton High School student Lucas Shirley, known by his gamer tag "Crackshot" has won in the grand finals with 4-0, making him number one in the United States at the HSEL Nationals.
"Crackshot" competed in the grand finals today at the High School Esports League Nationals in Kansas City, Missouri.
Shirley, a senior at Lumberton High School, competed in the esports Super Smash Brothers Ultimate bracket.
Shirley qualified for the top 10 in the Nationals after winning 2nd place in the HSEL central division esports Spring Major on May 20.
He was one of two students representing Texas at the Nationals.
"Crackshot" advanced to top 8 after ending with a 3-1 score on the first day while representing as one of the top 12 Smash Bros in the nation on June 7. The first round was played round robin style.
Shirley secured his spot in the grand finals after winning the semi finals on June 8.
Students from several states competed, including from Pennsylvania, Florida and California.
During the finals, "Crackshot" competed against another top student from Texas, known by his gamer tag "Bargain."
The finals also featured Valorant, Rocket League and Brawlhalla with high school students from all over the U.S.
The grand finals started around 11 a.m.
