BEAUMONT, Texas — Port Neches-Groves High School and Beaumont Charlton-Pollard campuses were placed on lockdown this morning as a precaution while officers responded to nearby locations.

A lockdown at Port Neches-Groves High School was lifted after Port Neches Police Department officers investigated a report of a possible burglary.

Port Neches officers received a call of a burglary in-progress near the school at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A witness told officers that the suspect left a house and started running toward the high school.

The school resource officer was notified and PNG was immediately placed on lock down at 9:11 a.m. due to the suspicious activity.

Multiple officers responded, checked the area and spoke to the homeowner.

Officers did not find a burglary suspect and discovered that a crime did not take place, according to Port Neches police Chief Cheri Griffith.

The lockdown was lifted six minutes later after police investigated the report.

PNG has periodic drills throughout the year to prepare for such situations.

Beaumont Charlton-Pollard went on lockdown Wednesday morning as a precaution while Beaumont police served a warrant at a location near the campus around 8:54 a.m., according to director of community and media relations Jackie Simien.

That lockdown was lifted at 9:30 a.m.

Police encourage everyone to report suspicious activity.
