SABINE, Texas — It was a sunny spring afternoon when Hunter Ham decided to take his wife and three kids to his favorite beach spot growing up at Sea Rim State Park for the first time in Sabine.
Little did they know they weren't the only Southeast Texas natives that thought it was a great time to spend the day at the beach.
After a normal, fun day of playing on the beach, while driving out Ham saw something that made him slam on the breaks of his truck. A massive alligator soaking up rays and chomping down on a large redfish.
Being an avid fisherman of 30 years and a fishing youtuber, Hamm didn't let the rare opportunity pass, he told his wife and kids to stay in the truck, hopped out with his phone and started filming.
Both Hams TikTok and YouTube, Ham Fishing, has started going viral with over a million views from the video of Ham carefully approaching the out of place gator as it happily chomped on it's meal.
Ham is an experienced outdoorsman and has been filming fishing adventures for his channel for a while now, but even he couldn't help but revel at the absurdity of the situation and the majesty of the animal which he estimates to have been about 10 feet long.
"You could just tell it was his beach, and he was just chilling without a care in the world," said Ham.
Texas Parks and Wildlife eventually came and let Ham know that the alligator likely made it's way over from a fresh body of water across the beach. They said alligators will sometimes do this to rid themselves of parasites by taking a dip in the saltwater.
After seeing the gator and getting up close and personal with the massive beast while filming, Ham had one main takeaway.
"It was a real treat," Ham told 12News.
