Law enforcement agencies are on day 2 of training for "active shooter" at Central Middle School in Nederland

Officers are going through simulations and scenarios to test their response as part of a new state-wide mandate.

NEDERLAND, Texas — Law enforcement agencies will be training again today on a Nederland campus for their "active shooter" training.

This will be the Nederland Police Department's second day of "active shooter training" at Central Middle School located on North 17th Street. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Groves Fire Department and the Department of Public Safety, DPS, are also involved in the training.

Officers are going through simulations and scenarios to test their response as part of a new state-wide mandate.

Nederland Police Department Assistant Chief Andrew Arnold says, "We have to do better at our jobs to make sure that we protect the kids that we serve."

"So, now that it's mandated, we just gotta get better at our craft," he said.
